Fresh off headlining his first North American tour, DJ Carnage aka Papi Gordo has curated his largest show to date at Pier 94 next Saturday. Each individual artist Carnage selected for his reunion has influenced his productions in one way or another. What should you expect? A historic night that will be full of surprises.
The eclectic lineup starts with one of the most prominent pioneers of the dirty south trap sound we all know today, Heroes x Villains. Carnage and HxV got started by collaborating on their remix of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s banger Mammoth. Pier 94 will definitely be goin’ up when the newest OVO member ILOVEMAKONNEN takes the stage to deliver his wavy hip-hop vibes. Coone & Doctor P will satisfy both ends of the electronic music spectrum with a healthy mix of hardstyle and dubstep. Last but not least is Carnage’s little brothers DVBBS. On and off stage, these two artists have incredible chemistry and show each other tons of mutual respect.
Originally hitting the scene with his ‘Festival Trap Remix’ of Hardwell’s Spaceman in 2012 and more importantly, being in love with the Chipotle – Carnage has rebranded himself as a man of the people and his international fan base Chipotle Gang. Take a look behind the scenes of his tour with Dzeko & Torres, Andres Fresko and videographer Yoder below for a better sense of the madness that will ensue on 12/27:
Never one to shy away from sharing his gratitude and feelings of how much it means to him to be in this position, Carnage has made major positive waves in the media over the past couple months. From secretly blasting $10,000 in cash at a sold-out 5,000 person show in Chicago to opening a school in his homeland Nicaragua, Carnage is not your stereotypical artist. As if his fun-loving personality and teddy-bear like frame isn’t enough, Diamante continues to surprise the industry almost every week. Don’t believe me? Just watch:
It’s incredible to see how quickly Carnage is rising within the industry and it’s more than well deserved. Then again, where would he be without learning from his early collaborators like Heroes x Villains?
Heroes & Villains, AKA Dan & Pete, are an ATL duo who define their genre of music simply as ‘Art’. Their approach to the “trap” genre is refreshing because they’ve been able to transcend sub-genres of electronically-made music by mixing in classical DJs like Boris alongside more-progressive musicians like Brodinski & Travis Scott in their sets. With their first single off their debut EP on Ultra Music, ‘Made It’, HxV bring in Lil Uzi & Rome Fortune for this certified trap-banger.
On the release, the boys said “With this song we threw the old ‘trap’ formulas out the window; instead, approaching the track from the perspective of making forward thinking rap music with artists we love, and incorporating what we consider the best elements of electronic music, not ‘EDM’. This is the new blueprint.”
You don’t want to miss HxV alongside Carnage, DVBBS and ILOVEMAKONNEN at Pier 94 on the 27th. For tickets/more info click here.
