Uber is trying to combat their recent publicity nightmare with the well-timed launch of a new carpool service called UberPool. The concept of UberPool is simple – share rides with other people that requested a similar route as you. When a match is found, you are sent the first name of your fellow rider. The split fare is dependent on how long each rider is in the car and how far they travel.
UberPool is expected to reduce fares by more than 40%, reportedly allowing riders to go from Williamsburg to the East Village for under $8. Not bad, even if you have to make friends (or not) with your ride-a-long.
Uber has been testing this new service out in San Francisco and is bringing it to New York City by early next week! NYC, your Saturday night Uber rides home are about to become a lot more interesting.
