At least Governor Cuomo is trying. He acknowledged in the State of the State address that NY’s laws regarding marijuana were not being enforced uniformly and were also costing the city millions in arrests. It has now been proposed that possession of fifteen grams or less be punishable by a fine, rather than a misdemeanor criminal charge, regardless of if it is in plain sight or not. It’s not quite legal…but it would be a start.
