While the print world is in a decline, that hasn’t stopped Nas from putting his name and his money (6-figures worth) into New York City staple, Mass Appeal. Mass Appeal relaunched last year via its online platform with Complex Media Network support. And within the last month, the print edition was resurrected. So Mass Appeal is definitely back in full affect.
Now, in an unexpected move, Nas jumps in as an investor of the Mass Appeal Media brand. Nas appeared on the cover of the magazine back in 2002 alongside longtime collaborator Large Professor. And now, he serves as part owner, and as Associate Publisher. Speaking with Forbes, Nas discusses the new deal:
“I always liked what they represented. They invested into the culture … I saw their vision for what they planned and I thought I could add value across the board. Mass Appeal has a legacy and respect. It already has a foundation … I just feel like I can add on because I can lend my kind of cultural expertise and my professional acumen, and develop the business. I knew that this [investing into business] was down the road. I didn’t care to interrupt me being a creative musical artist … I said I’ll be more of a businessman down the road. I’m down the road now.” – Nas, Forbes (April 2013)
Good luck to Nas and the rest of the Mass Appeal fam.
