What was expected to be a huge year for Lady Gaga hasn’t turned out that way, as the pop singer’s latest set ARTPOP didn’t do extremely well on the charts, well, in terms of industry standards. Although it debuted at number # 1 on the Billboard 100 moving a solid 258,000 copies, in comparison, it was nowhere close to Gaga’s previous 2011 project Born This Way which sold a staggering 1.1 million copies, mainly with the assistance from Amazon as it sold the LP for 99 cents during the album release week.
So what does this all mean for Gaga, now? Well, there have been some whispers that not only has her current project set back Interscope Records $25 million in losses, it will also be responsible for the loss of many jobs at the label. The straw that broke the monkey’s back was when Gaga took front and center at the MTV Awards and despite her revealing outfit (yeah, Smith family), it was surprisingly overshadowed by Miley’s twerking-gate which didn’t sit too well with industry execs at Interscope and, of course, didn’t translate into further record sales for Mother Monster when her LP was released this 4th quarter. Has Gaga’s “wow factor” run its course?
