Yesterday, Bloomberg and crew announced that New York City will become one of the first cities to have their own domain extension. The .NYC domains were approved as a a top level domain for New York area businesses and entities. The new domains will be up for grabs in the later part of 2013, but you must be a local business with footprints in the city or a resident with a New York City address.
“Having our own unique, top-level domain – .nyc – puts New York City at the forefront of the digital landscape and creates new opportunities for our small businesses,” Bloomberg said in a statement.
Let’s see if these dot nyc domains catch on. More as we get closer to the roll out.
