The average rent for an apartment in New York City (excluding Staten Island) has moved up to $3,017.19 per month, according to a Reuters report via real estate research firm Reis, Inc. So yeah, that includes Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. And specifically the average rent for Brooklyn was about $2,737 per month.
By comparison, the nationwide apartment rent average comes in at about $1,062 per month. And even crazier, but not surprising, is that New York really just has a 2 percent vacancy rate.
Times are most definitely hard.
