The NBA will allow advertising on both the court and the backboards for the first time ever, starting next season. This comes after the news that players’ jerseys can also be used for ad space. However, the ladder idea has sort of stalled out for the moment.
A team can place a company’s logo on the floor in front of both team benches, but it has to be a decal, and players will be entitled to a portion of the profits.
The idea was proposed by deputy commissioner Adam Silver, and will be evaluated over a one-year period to determine whether the league wants to make it a permanent piece of space to sell in the future.
