The Nets and Knicks season series came to end, but not without a fight. Emotions were high as the two teams duked it out until the final seconds of the game, where Joe Johnson put his team up ahead with a 12 foot jumper with 22.3 seconds left to seal the deal, as the squad from Brooklyn went on to snag an 88-85 win over the Knickerbockers. Melo seemed to be having a solid game up until the fourth quarter, finishing with 29 points on 11-29 shooting and going cold in the fourth and (0-6) in the period. With the win, the Nets not only inch closer to the Knicks in the standings column, but they also move to 11-2 under interim coach PJ Carlesimo, who surely looks like he’s a dead-in for the head coach job now. Adding insult to injury, the Knicks’ sixth man JR Smith quickly had a foul-mouthed rebuttal for power forward Kris Humphries, who jubilated about the win on Twitter, for JR only to say these venomous choice of words to him:
Big game tonight! The Garden got really quiet on the way out!#Brooklyn
