Derek Jeter returned to the field for the first time since his ankle surgery yesterday, though his ankle brace was in full effect.
“I’m right where I need to be,” he said to reporters. “I’ve gotten the OK to do everything now. I’ve got all the green lights I need.”
He believes he will be able to be back in the game for opening day April 1st.
“You hear things about him and you expect people to be helping him off the field and things like that. And that’s not the case,” his teammate Curtis Granderson said.
“It’s all a progression,” Jeter said. “Even if I didn’t break my ankle, like I told you guys before, there are steps to it. This is just another step in the process that I would be doing anyway. When I originally start taking ground balls, I take them on the grass, then I don’t move and then I take them on the grass and start to move and then I back up, so it’s all the same as years before.”
