The pressing issue now for Yankee’s fans around the world is: should Derek Jeter play at any point this weekend in Boston? After Game 1′s no-show at Fenway Park had Red Sox fans chanting Jeter’s name, Jeter announced that he plans to play Saturday and Sunday out of respect for the fans in Boston. In fact he mentioned that he would have hung up his cleats after his walk-off heroics, on Thursday evening, if the Red Sox weren’t his opponents.
As a kid who grew up in Boston, this is exactly what I have come to expect from one of the best to ever play game. While Jeter has meant everything to New York, he has also brought so much to Boston. He is the one remaining piece of the BIG Yankee-Red Sox rivalries back in the early 2000′s and I have nothing but admiration for the man.
No mater where you stand on the fence of whether he should play or not, there isn’t a person in the world that will turn off the TV if they disagree with Jeter’s decision. In the 212′s mind, even though he officially will only DH these last 2 games, he is making the right decision #re2pect.
