New Orleans crooner August Alsina has caught the ears of fans and critics alike since unleashing his infectious hit “I Luv This S—t” (featuring Def Jam label-mate Trinidad James) to the world several months ago. Now, poised to make his mark within the fickle R&B game, the singer who is signed to Noontime/Radio Killa Records, stopped by NYC last week to play his upcoming EP Downtown: Life Under The Gun for a select few at the Def Jam Offices. To piggy back off the former’s title, August also played an exclusive visual for his “Downtown” track with Kidd Kidd, which did appear on his DJ Drama hosted The Product 2 mixtape. Keeping it short and sweet, right after being introduced by Def Jam exec Shawn Pecas, Alsina took the mic to explain the inspiration behind the 8 track EP, stating it was not only a dedication to his late brother but was a harsh reality of his upbringing in NOLA and his undying love for tats. Simple as that! In case you weren’t the lucky ones, The212.com was in the building and managed to snag some photos from the intimate event (below). You can lookout for the EP to drop on August 20th.
